As a technical or creative specialist your sense of value in your role came from the tasks you achieved, meetings you attended, output you delivered, problems you solved, lines of code you wrote, or some other tangible metrics that you could see every week.
As an effective leader who empowers their team to be the best they can be, there should be very little that you can take credit for achieving alone. And that sucks, because if you're doing it right there will be many weeks when the value you add can't be measured or observed.
Most technical and creative leaders undermine their full effectiveness because they haven't had the support they need to separate their value from their achievements, and discover the exponential impact that their leadership can bring to a team when they fully embrace it.
It's never too late or too early to trust that you and your team are capable of more, and find the support you need to get there.
